Mt. Adams - Crescent Glacier Route

Successful single-day, late season speed ascent of the south route on Mt. Adams. Perfect conditions for a labor-filled, but rewarding Labor Day weekend.

Sun-cupped, late season conditions made the ascent interesting, to say the least. Compacted snow meant kick-steps were less than ideal, but also meant slippage was minimal.

Me, feeling fancy after a sub-8 hour single push up to the summit. Rainier was waiting to celebrate with us as we broke over the final ridge. Note the rocky conditions - very little snow cover on top, just a lot of volcanic rock!

Other climbers seen near the old fire lookout, out of service since 1924. Mt. St. Helens can be seen off in the distance to the right. Hood can be seen in the cover photo as well, and is just out of frame to the left of the lookout structure.
